Have you ever read “The Normal Christians Life” by Watchman Nee? What were your thoughts? Thank you very much for your thoughts on the “Once Saved Always Saved” myth. For me, some of the greatest evidence against this view are Christ’s words in John 15:1,2,5,6,8 and 10 where he clearly shows that those who are in him will be removed by the Father for not bearing fruit, and that those who don’t continue (abide) in him are cast out and burned.

Can I suggest 2 recommended books 1 for children; 1 for women (although men would benefit as well but may not be interested in it.)

The Big Picture Story Bible (great for under 3 or 4 years of age) by David Helm and Gail Schoonmaker

    and

My Heart in His Hands-Ann Judson of Burma by Sharon James-about the one of the first American commissioned missionaries to the Far East. Amazing read!

  3. Sorry I didn’t respond to Shawn’s post. I have the book but haven’t read it yet.

    K. Noble,

Feel free to recommend books. I’ve seen the Big Picture Story Bible and like it too. I haven’t read the book on Judson, but To the Golden Shore which focuses on Adoniram Judson is a great read about Ann’s husband.

    Blessings,

    Bob Hayton

Thanks Bob for the recommendation. I’m looking forward To the Golden Shore.

I’ve read John Piper’s What Jesus Demand’s from the World. An excellent read that challenges each reader to raise their perspective of Jesus’ authority in their own lives. While I do not agree with every single point-I think it is a fine book well-worth the time and money spent.

Does anyone have any comments or reviews about Dr. Erwin Lutzer’s book Slandering Jesus?

  5. K. Noble says:

Hi, Another great read is Made in Our Image by Dr. Steven Lawson. Blessings.

  6. K. Noble,

I haven’t read Lutzer’s book. I should include more books on this page, but it’s kind of like a best of the best, list. Although anything I actually review gets lister here too.

Thanks for adding you recommendations, too. Feel free.

    Blessings in Christ,

    Bob Hayton

I just finished reading Erwin Lutzer’s book Slandering Jesus. A great book…a very fast read for anyone who would like to have a summary overview of various ways that society is conjuring up the various jesuses of our time.

Bob-my husband just got back from the Shepherd’s Conference (John MacArthur’s church) and received a massive amount of books (just like last year) and so I hope to have more books read in the near future. While on their forum, I posted a response to someone who was in a similar situation (similar background) that you were in and asking questions about it. I hope you don’t mind, but I directed him to your website.

Have a great time off in Christ!

PS_I hope to refer an old “friend” to Piper’s church–I’m hoping she’ll take me up on it. :)

Has anyone read Chosen by God by RC Sproul?

  9. Thanks K. Noble!

I have read most of Chosen by God and it is a good book. However, a briefer study on Calvinism is the booklet my church produces written by Piper. Sproul’s book is good too.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Has anyone read Let The Reader Understand by Clayton/McCartney? Or the book Why We’re Not Emergent By Two Guys Who Should Be by DeYoung/Kluck?

  12. K. Noble says:

Bob, What is the pamphlet called that you suggested a while ago put out by your church on calvanism?

    Rich blessing,
    Kim

  13. Kim,

Welcome back. The pamphlet is called “What We Believe about the Five Points of Calvinism” and is available online for free, here.

    Blessings in Christ,

    Bob

PS I haven’t read those books but they sound good.

  14. K. Noble says:

Thanks, Bob. I’m in hot pursuit of the two books I mentioned–Let The Reader Understand and Why We’re Not Emergent….

Thanks for the link. I hope to get to it by this weekend.

    In Christ,

    Kim :)

  15. K. Noble says:

    Hi Bob–I’m back… :)

Two books that I have recently finished. Great reading…

    1) Amazing Grace in the Life of William Wilberforce–John Piper. Great read–very easy, small pamphlet-sized book packed with wonderful facts about Wilberforce from both a Christian and historical view. Great stocking stuffer!

    2) A Chance to Die–The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael–Elisabeth Elliot. This book, again, is a great read for both women and men, although, I assume that more women would want to read this. I like this missions-minded book that makes Christ the hero in the sanctification process and not the missionary. There are so many missionary books I read that makes it sound as if the missionary is very close to walking on water. This book gives a wonderful view of Carmichael’s life as a woman who sacrificed everything to be a missionary to India, yet did not live and do everthing in perfection….just in humility.

    Blessing in Christ, Bob.

  16. Thanks, K. I’ve read the first one, its good. Hopefully the next few months will see an increase in reviews around here.

  21. Why thanks, John. I’m trying. I recommend trying to get a few free books yourself, while you’re at it. You don’t have to be a maniac about it like me, but get a few freebies and review them on your blog. It’ll be fun and educational both!
