So Maybe I'm Rootin' for the Wrong Guy!

I took a detailed survey at politichoice.com which is supposed to match my views to the proper candidate. And it turns out I might be endorsing the wrong guy!!! Then again, I’m pretty close to Huckabee after all, and way closer than to Sam Brownback, hmmm.

You should take the test too! Just click on the button that says “Candidate Match”. (They do require you to register, but you can opt out of receiving any emails from them.) [HT: A Buck for Huck]

  1. I was a bit surprised, too! My list showed Fred Thompson at the top, followed by Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, and then, in 4th place, Mike Huckabee. I know for certain that I’d never vote for Fred, which is surprising to me….

  2. These things aren’t fool proof, of course. What I think is interesting is how Brownback differs so much from Huckabee.

I don’t like Fred, he seems fake and calculating to me. An actor who tries to make himself seem the conservative “savior”, just puts me off, personally. Plus he can’t have the same charisma and appeal Huck has.

  3. What’s more irritating about that poll is that ‘Ron Paul’ even showed up on the radar when I took the survey. We’ve got some pretty rabid Ron Paul supporters here in SW Florida. One guy had a Scion xB with “WWRPD” stenciled on his rear window and bumper stickers galore. The stickers said, “RON PAUL – America’s Hope”. Utterly blasphemous to me. And some of his supporters stand on street corners just about anywhere with political signs. Sheesh.

  4. Mike Huckabee 86.87 %
    Duncan Hunter 84.85 %
    Tom Tancredo 83.33 %
    Fred Thompson 83.08 %
    Mitt Romney 76.26 %
    Sam Brownback 74.75 %
    John McCain 73.74 %
    Rudy Guiliani 63.13 %
    Ron Paul 60.86 %
    Joe Biden 36.87 %

Well, Bob, I guess I “voted right,” huh?

If this scheme can be trusted at all, then I figure my affinity towards Huckabee has risen.

    Interesting.

    Thanks for the post.

  5. Dave,

All such polls have problems. There were times I didn’t like any of the choices. But this one takes pains to be as accurate as possible. I trust the general results of this much more than the average internet “poll”.

  6. FR,
Good post . . . made me think of the challenge of matching a candidate with a voter based on things a candidate espouses. For example, while Huckabee might be deriding corporations that provide golden parachutes for executives, I’m not sure that he would outlaw greed in corporate governance . . . his policy provisions would come well short of that, but the rhetoric criticizing it is still strong.

I’ve posted on this at my blog.

    Keep the faith . . .

  7. Good point, Ned. Obviously the Fair tax, for instance, couldn’t happen over night. But electing the fair tax candidate would help take steps in that direction.

  8. I love you guys!
