  1. Here’s the results of someone born and bred in the Northeast:

    45% Yankee
    40% General American English
    10% Upper Midwestern
    0% Dixie
    0% Midwestern

    g’day,
    -Steve

  2. Joe,

I just noticed that after your comment. It looks like everyone only scores a total of 95%. I wonder if the guy who did the test has it rigged so that only one way gets a total of 100%. Probably not, though.

  3. Notice I major on the Dixie, and minor on the Yankee (too much imported news and television from the left coast and the snobs in New Yowak!). Fort Worth’s slogan is, “Where the West Begins.” If you look at a map, you’ll notice we’re right on the edge of where the well forested (and in some parts, swampy)southeast transitions to the brown and dusty southwest. Texas has a split personality: east Texas looks like the southeast (and also includes the ever popular leftover, so-called “racist” mode of discourse which is so ingrained in their heritage) and west Texas looks more and more like the states to its west.

So, here in Texas, we’ve got the best of both worlds! Yee-Haw!!! (That’s Texan for Hallelujah!)

  4. John,

West Texas is among the most desolate wastelands on planet Earth! Seriously, driving through New Mexico and Arizona was way better than driving that long stretch through west Texas!

  5. 60% General American English

    15% Dixie

    15% Yankee

    5% Midwestern

    0% Upper Midwestern

And, I agree with Bob, it’s POP.
