Hello Bob,
I find myself in a similar situation as you did, except I came from open theism. I was wondering if you wanted to link each other. My blog is mainly focused on getting people connected with Reformed resources on the web: free books available online, sermons, teaching, etc. as well as some personal thoughts and articles.
Ted,
I am excited that you found my blog. Let me take a look at yours, and most likely we can link each other. In fact I’m thinking about a reciprocal link spot, too.
Blessings in Christ,
Bob Hayton
Hi Bob, thanks for your “fundamental reformed” aggregator (http://groups.blogdigger.com/groups.jsp?id=3157). Curiously, today it fed out an entry from someone labelled as “murg” (whose blogger profile shows her to be an Alma Bush). The entry was nonsense (literally, like blog spam)). But it’s not a response to somoeone else’s blog. Her blog actually in the aggregator list. And since only the editor of a blogdigger list can add a new blog, it doesn’t seem she could have done it herself. Do you know anything about that? Did you add her?
Perhaps that’s related to another question: I notice that the URL you offer for your aggregation of FR blogs (as listed at left) as http://xfruits.com/fundyreformed/. That’s a very different interface from the blogdiggers one. I now wonder where I found the BD one (just a few days ago). Might it be an older one that you’ve replaced with the xfruits one? It does have your name on it as the owner, and indeed the other bloggers listed there seem people you would support and promote (Murg’s seems to have been just added, as her first and only entry is from just 2 days ago.)
Sorry to post this publicly (since it may be quickly resolved and others reading this will be left wondering what I’m talking about when it’s gone). I just couldn’t find any email-based way to reach you.
Again, thanks for all that you do yo spread and defend the gospel.
Charlie,
Thanks for letting me know about that. The “Murg” blog you refer to, used to be a different blog altogether. Apparently it was last used in August of 2006, and so must have got deleted by the user or Blogger. I do see that the former writer of that blog now has a different one, but it only has 2 posts on it and they are old. I am going to remove the link from my aggregators, and also not list that person’s blog anymore. She had some interesting posts, but they were not as consistently on the same kind of topic as the other blogs are.
As for blogdigger, at one time I was using it. Then I stopped linking to it, because it didn’t work with some of the blogs that I wanted to include. I found xFruits worked better. Now that particular blog changed and it may work just fine. I need to look into it. There is a new option I have heard about from Feedburner too. For now the xFruits works fine, but I am updating blogdigger as well. I just also added a new blog to the list.
This is one of those “housekeeping” things that can tend to get overlooked. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, though.
Glad you enjoy the blog and the blog group.
Blessings from the Cross,
Bob
Note: My aggregator is updated now.
hi bob,
i am in love with all your books especially the one “Alone with God” which i really want to get. But i’m in nigeria and i want to have a copy that book,”Alone with God”. how so i get it.tis is my email address: myprincess12@yahoo.com.please send me a reply.
Hi, my name is Todd and I am a Reformed Christian. I have read some of your posts and your “My Story” letter and agree with a lot of the things I see. I was wondering if you would be willing to take a look at my blog. It is forthetimethatispastsuffices.wordpress.com. I recently started it, mainly as an avenue to lead an online Bible study, and am trying to get the word out about it. I was inspired to do this in order to keep teaching some guys I had taught in my hometown before I moved away this last summer, but I am interested in sharing this study with as many people as possible. We are currently going through 1 Peter and on my blog I have posted both study notes and an audio file of myself going over the first weeks passage. Thanks and good luck in spreading God’s message.
Todd,
I’ll be glad to check out your blog. Glad you found me.
Gotta’ run.
Bob
Hi Bob,
Thanks for this website. I plan to read more. My family attended a fundamental Baptist church here in Vancouver for a few months as we were looking for a church with solid teaching that wouldn’t jump on every bandwagon that came along (purpose-driven etc.).
We happen to appreciate the teaching ministry of John MacArthur and John Piper and other solid reformed men of God. Well, when the fb pastor heard that, he said “I would not send my goldfish to that man’s church (John MacArthur)”. He was so vehemently against anything to do with the reformed faith. He also forbade women from being involved in ministry unless they wore a skirt/dress vs pants, and men required a tie to serve in the meetings.
We were hurt by the experience and thankfully now are in a small church where the pastor is a man of humility and stresses truth, but grace also. I feel for those in this particular fb church that are being brought under a yoke of slavery that is legalism, where duty and externals are emphasized and grace is lacking.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Michelle. Comments like yours keep me in business!
Blessings in Christ,
Bob Hayton
Greetings: In doing research on Methodists and Primitive Methodists in Southwest Wisconsin in the era of 1835-1860 I find the term “temperance wine” used. Exactly what was it, grape juice or something else. Thank you. Jim.

Thank you for this website. I came to a IFB church (alson in MN) at a teen, went on to a IFB Bible college and taughtin christian schools. Well, life being what it is, things changed. After a rough year teaching, I quit going to church. Now some 15 years later, through a neighbor, I have found a wonderful church, an ECLA church. I have struggled with so many of the same issues you addressed so eloquently. Three big areas for me are KJV only, worship style/music, and salvation/soulwinning. I have bookmarked your site and plan to come back for more study. Thank you for presenting information and resources to help me explain what I have been searching for.
Hi Bob
Thank you for your site. It is a great encouragement.
Have been a lurker at your site for some time, often looking for a balanced viewpoint to counter or at least temper some of the more dubious doctrines being espoused by our brethren.
I am currently concerned about some people in our church getting quite involved with promoting the teachings of Chuck Missler. I have not read/heard much of his teaching, but what I have seen and heard alarms me. (UFO’s The nephilim, Conspiracy theories etc) Do you have any insight into his teaching, obviously without slandering etc, but at least things to be aware of?
Thanks
James
Thanks Kelly for your kind words.
James,
I’m not familiar with Missler. You could probably find something if you search for his name at equip.org.
Blessings,
Bob
Bob – I enjoy your blog and happened to find you through your posts on Stuff Fundies Like. Ha! But I like coming here too, b/c you address the issues in a thoughtful way and always with scripture.
I wanted to see if you read about the recent events (8/4/09) in PA, where a crazy gunman murder/suicide tirade in a health club. Well, this guy kept an online diary of his life and his plans. Very spooky. But as I was reading, I came across a couple entries where he talks about specific people. One of those was what he described as a “right-wing, stiff-faced fundie”. He talks about how horrid this guy must have been to be around. You can read the entry here: http://georgesodini.com/20090804.htm (warning that it does contain offensive language). The entry talking about “Andy” is about half-way down the page.
As I read this entry it saddened me for those that I know just like “Andy”. For many years I was probably just like him. I thank God that I am out of the fundie world. I like to poke fun and I frequently look back on those years with confusion. But one thing I think we don’t talk about enough is how fundamentalism can and has harmed the believers involved in it, the unbelievers surrounding us, and ultimately, the gospel. It’s obvious this dude had some serious issues, but our stupid, pig-headed, stiff-necked, hypocritical, fundie ways can do so much to destroy.
Hi there, my name is Mark McKinnon and I am promoting Dr. Brian Borgman’s new book, Feelings and Faith: Cultivating Godly emotions in the Christian life. I was wondering if it would be possible to set up an interview between yourself and Dr. Borgman regarding the subject of his book to be posted on your blog? His website is http://www.feelingsandfaith.com if you would like to check out the content. I have also attached a word document containing some endorsements of Dr. Borgman’s book.
Please call me at 775-232-7040 or email me if you have any questions at all.
thank you for your time.

Thanks Peggy. It worked this time.
Thank you so much for using your time for God’s glory through this blog! I came across it today through a search for a song by the Getty’s.
My husband & I were saved through the ministry of a Fundamental Christian church & attended one after we were married. We were becoming more & more frustrated by what we saw there. We are now attending a smaller, newer church, still fundamental in it’s doctrine but right down the line with what we believe. It is a living, breathing church set on glorifying God, evangelizing the lost, discipling believers, etc, etc. We love it & have grown more in the last year than in the 6 years we were at our previous church.
I am looking forward to keeping up with your blog & growing in my knowledge of the Word of God.
Thanks Carissa for the kind words.
Blessings in Christ,
Bob Hayton
Greetings Brother Hayton,
I have found your site a couple of times by accident. I went through quite a time in my life that people who were upset by independent fundamental baptists became upset for some reason and then went over into reformed theology. I will say that not every independent baptist church is balanced but you cannot throw the baby out with the bathwater. The more extreme ones do not characterize the movement as a whole. The whole of Scripture does not reflect reformed theology but many times the opposite. Why did God give invitations in almost every OT prophetic book to flee from sin and come back to Him if every Christian is going to persevere and also tell us to be wise and wins souls (Dan 12:2) if He has already determined. Reformed theology goes farther than Scripture and is hurtful to New Testament local churches. The only way to multiply is to take believers who have been taught Biblicist doctrine and retrain them to think Calvinistically. I hope this helps.
Pastor Jeremy Rice
Jeremy,
Thanks for dropping by. You are correct that there are many different strands of independent Baptists. Not all are equally bad. Same goes for many groups. I’m trying to reform and help people harmed by the extreme groups. I’m happy for those in good solid IFB churches.
Reformed theology is often misunderstood and mischaracterized as well. For instance, unless you believe Christians can lose their salvation (which most IFBs do not believe), some form of perseverance is in view for Christians (who are genuine believers). God has elected people that is for sure regardless of your stance on Reformed theology. God also says only by preaching the word, will people believe (Rom. 10). These are not 2 conflicting ideas, unless you misunderstand them. God uses the preaching and evangelizing activities of believers as the means to convert the lost who He has elected will be saved.
Since we don’t know who God has determined will be saved, we preach God’s word freely to all. This is what John Calvin, John Knox, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitfield, Asahel Nettleton, William Carey, Adoniram Judson, and Charles Spurgeon did — and they all believed in Reformed theology or “Calvinism”.
What exactly is “Biblicist” doctrine by the way? Don’t tell me about “retraining” believers, read Acts 13:48 and John 6:44 and tell me who does the “retraining”. Or try Rom. 9. Your side has to dance around such scriptures.
Anyway, we won’t convince each other, I’m afraid. I also think you don’t understand what Calvinism really teaches.
In Christ,
Bob
I noticed the link to the song story for “Hope of the Nations” is no longer valid. Do you know where else I can get a copy of this story?
Matt,
I believe the story is now part of a book, and so it is unavailable online (as far as I know).
You can order the book however.
Thanks,
Bob
Hello Bob,
I am a former member of Bethlehem and we attended the North site. I remember seeing you many times though we never got the chance to meet. The Lord led us to Missouri last January. I found your blog from the Contemporary Calvinist site. I am interested in “improving” my blog and reaching out to peole in need of counseling and biblical change. I am currently working toward my Masters in Biblical Counseling here at Calvary Bible College and Seminary. How do you get such a good amount of people visiting your site? How do I improve the performance in order to be more effective at reaching out? I really apprectiate your blog and what you are doing-this is a ministry! BTW, do you make money from this?
Thanks for your time and I know Bethlehem is an encouraging place-we where there for five years!
Jason,
There are so many at Bethlehem, that I don’t remember you particularly. Glad to hear my blog is a blessing to you.
I think blogging semi-regularly on similar topics, will build a readership. Interacting at other blogs in the comments, and linking to them helps as well. I don’t make much money doing this, just a little bit from kickbacks from Amazon.
Your blog looks good, I’d try to join some blogrolls, and just comment at other blogs, or link to them from your posts. In time, more visitors will come.
Blessings in Christ,
Bob
There is no such thing as fundementally reformed, you eigher know the Truth or your deformed.
The first problem with folks like you,is that you don’t believe in Gods word and thats why you promote every perversion bible out there! You have traded a sword for a garden tool.
This is the first subject I’d like to debate you on…..KJV only, prove me wrong!
I am looking for a discipleship resource that leans towards Calvanism. I have one by Greg Ogden called Discipleship Essentials but I am not sure where he leans as it is published by Intervarsity Press, and I found my years at InterVaristy Fellowship to be anything but leaning towards Calvanism.
Garrett, I’m going to open up your question to my readers. I’m not sure I would know.
Thanks,
Bob
Garett,
I posted your question as a post, we’ve had some responses: http://www.fundamentallyreform.....es-anyone/
Hey Bob,
man you have no idea how glad i am to find you blog. I’ve been raised in a Hyper-Fundamentalist “Ole Timey” church and the whole time i’ve always felt something wasn’t right, the logic and scriptural proofs were just too lacking. About a year ago i started studying and found great preachers like John Macarthur and John Piper and have grown more now than i ever have under IFB preaching. Lately i have really noticed the extent “decisionism” has on Fundamentalism and i am disgusted at the prostitution of the gospel. I don’t wont to be exposed to this hash and really don’t want my family too, but at the same time this church is like my family, should i leave?
Thanks,
Jordan
