  1. The verse, atually verses that are most convicting to me on the subject of pride is Phil 2:3-11. It is not my first response to not do things for myself and to act in humily. But the example that Christ has given is extremely humbling. By God’s grace I am trying to have less the mind of me, and more and more the mind of Christ.

  2. Matthew 18:1-4 ESV At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” (2) And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them (3) and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (4) Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  3. Proverbs 11:2 – When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.

The disgrace sets in when you have that aha moment after you realized your pride and so did everyone else.

  4. For me it would have to be Psalm 128:1 “Blessed is everyone that feareth the Lord; that walketh in His ways”

While not dealing explicitly with pride for me it has become a beacon of hope every time I find myself becoming dependent on the flesh to fulfill my spiritual duties, particularly with my family. It’s so easy for me, in a pressure filled ministry, to drift into patterns of fleshly effort and forget that true success only comes in humble submission to the Lord.

I find this promise draws me into the heart to the command.

  5. John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

Convicts me so much of my self centeredness and self importance and at the same time lifts my eyes to something far more wonderful and majestic than I could ever be.

    Blessings,
    Michael

  6. “In lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves” (Philippians 2 :3). Always convicting because I tend to put myself before others.

  7. “In lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves” (Philippians 2 :3). Pride motivates me to put self before others.

  8. 1 Peter 5:5 (AMP)

For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)—[and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble.

I find comfort in the promise that regardless of how I’ve acted, when I come to god humbly, He will offer grace.

  9. I find Philippians 2 very convicting. If the King of Kings and Lord of Lords made himself nothing and took the form of a servant, who am I to exalt myself? (And yet, unfortunately, I do…far too often.)

  10. “But God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me and I unto the world.” (Gal 6:14)

  11. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world (Galatians 6:14)

  12. Thanks everyone for joining the contest, and for the excellent verses on pride.

Our randomly picked winner is Andrew Safie. I’ll be emailing you Andrew for your address so I can have the publisher send out your free copy.

    Blessings to all,

    Bob Hayton
