Looking back on my SBC days, I am amazed at God's grace in getting me beyond that. Understanding Reformed Theology is like getting hit by a train: it changes everything. Reading beyond the lines, I am struck by what could and should have been. All the emphasis on the silly, the emotional, and the minor in place of the of substantial is the real issue. My laughter is tempered by this reality. If this sort of nonsense-especially the KJV-only farce- is what Fundamentalism has to offer, it deserves to die. It is a parody of itself. It is no wonder the term is a pejorative. As long as Fundamentalism is like this the world will never give it any respect. It deserves none. But let us all beware: it is easy to laugh at what we used to be, but the Fundamentalists could easily turn the tables on us with "You might be Reformed if...." (Contributions, anyone?) It helps me to be patient with the weaker brothers when I realize just how weak I am. Paul did not write 1 Cor. 8 just for the Corinthians.
