I agree that singing can renew ones spirit and bring
a inner revival. But I do think that we need to be cautious and not bring in songs that sound like the rest of the worlds songs. People outside of the churches need to see that we stand apart, and for Christ. Many of the newer songs that I have heard I couldn"t even understand what they were saying because of the beat.

Hey Bob! Nice Blog! This topic reminds me of this passage:

"Let the word of Christ well in your richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, sining psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." (Col. 3:16; ESV)

Can't imagine a day going by without having something to be thankful for and therefore something to sing about!

That quote from Revelations reminded me of the great sermon "Ten Shekels and a Shirt" by Paris Reidhead (or as he would have said, by the Lord). That sermon really motivated me and I think Mr. Piper always evinces a passion for the lost. If only you guys could get out of thinking that baptism puts you into a specific church instead of Christ!

That aside, it's very distressing to me how jaded and uninterested people in America seem to be toward God and the Bible. One of my own neighbors told me recently that he is too happy with life now to worry about being a Christian. He's a great, warm-hearted guy, but he is so blind to his need and so are most people, including many "half-way Christians". I completely agree that it is when we find our joy in Christ that we become empowered and motivated to witness and go out of our way to help those we can, anyway we can.

Whoo hoo...*: )...I remember a few years back...1982...when I began singing new songs to the Lord during personal worship at home...Our whole family got changed!...When we bring joy to the heart of God with our praise...His indwelling Holy Spirit reciprocates with joy in our hearts! The Joy of the Lord is our strength...we become emboldened with joy and that affects the world around us! *: )
