It has been awhile since I posted on the great music we sing at Bethlehem. I would like to post at least weekly on this topic, particularly highlighting one song we sing for our worship service each week. To catch up somewhat, I will post about two songs today (one from yesterday and one from last week).
I will glory in My Redeemer
Words and Music by Steve and Vikki Cook
(of Sovereign Grace Ministries)
I will glory in my Redeemer
Whose priceless blood has ransomed me
Mine was the sin that drove the bitter nails
And hung Him on that judgment tree
I will glory in my Redeemer
Who crushed the power of sin and death
My only Savior before the Holy Judge
The Lamb Who is my righteousness
The Lamb Who is my righteousness
I will glory in my Redeemer
My life He bought, my love He owns
I have no longings for another
I’m satisfied in Him alone
I will glory in my Redeemer
His faithfulness my standing place
Though foes are mighty and rush upon me
My feet are firm, held by His grace
My feet are firm, held by His grace
I will glory in my Redeemer
Who carries me on eagle’s wings
He crowns my life with lovingkindness
His triumph song I’ll ever sing
I will glory in my Redeemer
Who waits for me at gates of gold
And when He calls me it will be paradise
His face forever to behold
His face forever to behold
His face forever to behold
This song is very stirring. It directs one’s heart to Christ. He is our Righteousness and He secures our right standing with God! He is also the one we long to forever behold. (We sang this one yesterday.)

In an interview available here, Steve Cook points out what influences he and his wife’s songs. “As for the writers and theologians who influence us, we’re still inspired by the same guys — Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, and John Piper.”
Knowing You
Words and Music by Graham Kendrick
All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this
Knowing you, Jesus
Knowing you, there is no greater thing
You’re my all, you’re the best
You’re my joy, my righteousness
And I love you, Lord
Now my heart’s desire is to know you more
To be found in you and known as yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All-surpassing gift of righteousness
Oh, to know the power of your risen life
And to know You in Your sufferings
To become like you in your death, my Lord
So with you to live and never die
This too is a song that lifts the heart in worship to Christ. Phil. 3 is written all over it! It is one of my favorites to sing with our congregation, as so many people are singing with such fervor and love to Christ through the words and music of this song.

I hope these songs make you lift up your heart in worship to our Savior Jesus Christ, too!
